Kobe Bryant’s daughter, Natalia, 19, seeks a restraining order against the alleged stalker

Posted on November 22, 2022

Natalia Bryant, the daughter of the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant, filed a restraining order request against an alleged stalker in Los Angeles, court records show.

The 19-year-old University of Southern California student filed for a civil harassment restraining order Monday against Dwayne Cortez Toliver Kemp, 32, of Sun Valley, California.

The filing states that Kemp allegedly began harassing her on social media in 2020 when she was just 17 and he was 30.

Beginning in 2020, Kemp, described in the filing as an online gun enthusiast, began sending her messages on social media as if they were in a romantic relationship or wanted to start such a relationship, according to the filing. She never met him but was scared when he blew kisses to faces and hearts and threatened to make unwanted in-person contact with her, he said.

In July 2021, Kemp allegedly sent Bryant a DM with a photo of his father, Kobe Bryant, and a message alluding to his hope that he and Bryant could have a son like Kobe together, according to the filing.

“Grateful to have birthed you, I hope we can birth him… ‘Kobe,'” he wrote, according to the file.

The harassment “intensified over time” and he attempted to meet her on the University of Southern California campus at least twice, most recently on Nov. 2, leading her to fear for her safety, according to the filing.

There were multiple witnesses to the escalating behavior, including USC faculty, the USC Department of Public Safety and members of his sorority, according to the document. USC and the USC Department of Public Safety did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday morning from NBC News.

Additionally, Kemp appears to be a gun enthusiast who posted online about his fondness for firearms, the filing alleges.

Shortly after trying to visit Bryant at USC on November 2, he posted images of a “Draco” and a “mini Draco” with the comment “next,” implying that these would be his next purchase, according to the filing. Both are AK-47 pistol style firearms.

The next day, he posted on Instagram that he wanted to buy a “Glock switch” immediately, which is illegal to possess under federal law as it is a device that allows a semi-automatic Glock pistol to function as a fully automatic firearm, the post wrote. Bryant’s attorney. .

On November 9, he posted three videos to his Instagram and Facebook accounts in the process of shopping for a rifle, also around the time he tried to contact Bryant at USC, according to the filing.

Kemp has been arrested or convicted at least four times for misdemeanors, with one of those incidents involving a firearm, according to the filing. No information was included about whether Kemp has an attorney.

The filing stated that USC campus police and the Los Angeles Police Department supported Bryant’s restraining order request, and Kemp’s behavior has caused him “substantial emotional distress.”

The restraining order request requests that Kemp stay at least 200 yards from Bryant, his home, his place of work, his school, his vehicle and the sorority house and USC campus.

The next hearing date is set for December 14.
